Good Jobs Northern Nevada

The Good Jobs Northern Nevada (GJNN) program connects career seekers with high-demand careers in healthcare, information technology, manufacturing and logistics.

The program provides free skills training, soft skills development and support services such as childcare, transportation and financial assistance to help individuals overcome employment barriers. GJNN prioritizes serving distressed, rural and tribal communities across Northern Nevada with the goal of placing at least 650 Nevadans into quality jobs.

Incumbent Worker Training

The Nevadaworks Incumbent Worker Training (IWT) Grant helps enhance the skills of existing employees in Northern Nevada. Funded by the Nevada Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation (DETR), this grant improves employee capabilities and supports employer competitiveness through job-relevant, quality skill-building.

Nevada Tech Hub & Battery Workforce

As a partner of the University of Nevada, Reno’s Nevada Tech Hub project, Nevadaworks supports workforce development for the lithium battery and electrification supply chain. This involves working closely with community colleges, state agencies, employers and labor unions to expand educational opportunities, provide wraparound support services and promote STEM career pathways. Nevadaworks also supports recruitment, helping ensure broad participation that includes Nevada’s indigenous communities.

Building on the Tech Hub’s education efforts, the Battery Workforce project takes a broader view of the entire lithium battery lifecycle in Northern Nevada, including production, recycling and sustainability initiatives. A key component of this project is its associated Industry Sector Partnership meetings, which help guide and shape workforce development initiatives to meet the evolving demands of this critical industry.

Disconnected Youth

One of Nevada’s most critical workforce development and community investment opportunities is young adults, ages 16–24, not enrolled in school or working.

Nevadaworks supports this population through the Future Wanted Career Launch Program with the Reno Bike Project, providing services and training resources to prepare young Nevadans for work and connect them with employers.

Nevada Apprenticeship Initiative

The Nevada Apprenticeship Initiative (NAI) is a statewide effort to expand Registered Apprenticeship pathways, helping more Nevadans land in high-quality, in-demand careers. Nevadaworks provides businesses with the support needed to develop new apprenticeship programs, including access to education and workforce partners and financial assistance to help offset program startup costs.

This initiative is funded through the U.S. Department of Labor’s Apprenticeship Building America (ABA2) grant program.

High Sierra Area Health Education Center

Nevadaworks, in partnership with High Sierra Area Health Education Center (AHEC) and DETR, is addressing critical healthcare workforce shortages in northern and rural communities. Through targeted training, recruitment and tuition reimbursement programs, this initiative helps attract and retain healthcare professionals, driving economic growth while improving access to quality care.

Up Next Nevada Workforce

The Up Next Nevada Workforce Initiative is a partnership between Nevadaworks, the Nevada Alliance of Boys & Girls Clubs and DETR to strengthen Nevada’s youth development workforce.

This initiative provides young people with quality job experiences in childcare and after-school programs, equipping them with essential skills, mentorship and career pathways for long-term success across all the Boys & Girls Clubs in Nevada.

Quality Jobs, Equity, Strategy and Training

The goal of Quality Jobs, Equity, Strategy and Training (QUEST) is to enable individuals adversely affected by the COVID-19 pandemic to enter, return to or advance in high-quality jobs in the infrastructure, hospitality, logistics and healthcare sectors.

Those severely impacted include people of color, immigrants, people with disabilities, individuals who were formerly incarcerated, women and lower-wage workers.

Project Clean Energy Jobs Academy

Project Clean Energy Jobs Academy (CEJA) is a collaboration between Nevadaworks and the Office of Workforce Innovation (OWINN), which implements the U.S. Department of Labor’s Building Pathways to Infrastructure Jobs grant program.

The project is focused on building a strong workforce for Nevada’s clean energy economy, by connecting the Nevada Tech Hub and Industry Sector Partnerships to address workforce needs in the lithium loop in Northern Nevada.
