Mission-driven to
support the
Nevada workforce
Our work supports the two main drivers of Nevada’s workforce — employers and workers. There are four key ways we support these groups:

Job-specific worker training
We connect career seekers with job training in high-growth industries, including healthcare, manufacturing, logistics and digital technology. To ensure training is specific and relevant to employer needs, we partner with local training providers, including community colleges. We also provide funding for employers to offer upskilling and apprenticeships.

Assistance with barriers to training or work
Often, the thing standing between a worker and the new job they want is something we can help with. From transportation assistance to financial support for supplies and equipment, Nevadaworks connects eager career seekers with the resources they need to gain employment and get on a good career path with opportunities to advance. Whether the challenge is not having a GED or the right work clothes, Nevadworks’ talent development specialists help guide career seekers to the right support — all at no cost to them

Connecting the right workers to employers
Think of Nevadworks as a matchmaker for employers looking to hire. We work with employers to find out exactly what skills they need in a new employee and then find, or help train, the workers who best meet their needs. Working with Nevadaworks means employers won’t need to sort through dozens, or even hundreds, of unqualified candidates to find a good match. This service supports our mission and is offered to employers and career seekers at no cost.

Employee upskilling
Employee development and upskilling support individual capabilities and career pathways, and drives organizational success by aligning the skills in the workplace with evolving industry demands. Upskilling employees may include education and training in industry- or employer-specific work skills, basic job skills, technical computer skills, new technologies, equipment operation, soft skills, or certifications and credentials. Nevadaworks offers support with upskilling programs at no cost to employers as part of our mission to strengthen Nevada’s workforce.

How we’re funded
In 2014, the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) was signed into law by President Barack Obama. The intent of the law is to provide workforce training services to career seekers, thus increasing their employment potential, job retention, and earnings while meeting the employer’s demands for a skilled workforce.
WIOA established Local Workforce Development Boards throughout the country. Nevada has two local boards:
Nevadaworks in the North
serving Carson City, Churchill, Douglas, Elko, Eureka, Humboldt, Lander, Lyon, Mineral, Pershing, Storey, Washoe and White Pine counties.
Workforce Connections in the South
serving Clark, Esmeralda, Lincoln and Nye counties.
WIOA is only the initial framework for creating a world-class workforce development system. In addition to WIOA, Nevadaworks receives a variety of other funding to support workforce development programs and resources.
